KUALA LUMPUR – Forest Interactive teams up with Closing The Gap (CTG) Malaysia to support high-need scholars amid the global pandemic.

Initiated during the International Day of Education that falls every 24th of January, the month-long collaboration with CTG and Yayasan Tunku Abdul Rahman (YTAR) aims to build a seamless learning experience among the scholars while narrowing the digital learning gap in the country.

Forest Interactive donated laptops to bright, under-represented Malaysians from CTG’s pre-university mentorship program. A panel session and a series of virtual workshops covering hands-on learning and introduction to tech fields such as web development and user interface and experience (UI/UX) design were also hosted by Forest Interactive’s own talents, providing knowledge and skills to achieve their fullest potential in STEM fields.

“Digital inclusion, especially for underserved communities, is important to Forest Interactive and the work we do in increasing opportunities for everyone toward a more connected world,” said Sheena Pimentel, Head of Corporate PR at Forest Interactive. “We believe that every student should have fair access to resources they need to excel.”

“The lack of access to digital devices has affected our scholars’ participation especially during these lockdowns,” shared Raenuga Indran, Marketing & Partnerships Executive at YTAR. “We are glad that we were able to partner with Forest Interactive to bridge the digital divide, which otherwise could have a lifelong impact on the scholars. With laptops and data allowances, our scholars are able to stay in school and in the CTG program.”

“We are honored to play a role in providing the support and resources to help CTG scholars get back on track with their education,” commented Pimentel. “Equitable access to quality education has the power to break the cycle of poverty—a key reason why Forest Interactive champions developing future innovators.”

Since its inception, Forest Interactive’s talents have volunteered as mentors to 1,330 students at 339 schools, inspiring future innovators to pursue careers in the tech industry.

This Forest Interactive initiative focuses on five key areas that contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): No Poverty, Quality Education, Reduced Inequalities, Partnership for the Goals, as well as Sustainable Cities and Communities.
