Value-Added Services in APAC

Value-added service in the telecommunications industry refers to additional features that can be added to a core product to enhance user experiences. In this consumer insight infographic, we would like to show the preferred value-added services ranked from the most popular, in the Asia Pacific region.

According to the latest Consumer in Focus Survey by GSMA Intelligence, one of the most popular Value-Added Services (VAS) in the APAC region is video streaming content. 28% of survey takers have subscribed to the service and 39% are interested in adding the service to their phone subscription. Though video streaming is the most preferred VAS, Digital Security Services is seeing the highest interest rate at 49%. The digital transformation happening in 2020 has sparked awareness towards the importance of digital security.

If we segment the survey takers by age, preferred VAS will shift. Individuals aged between 18-34 favors video and music streaming content, while individuals above 34 years of age are most likely to choose digital security services as a priority. In research by Frost & Sullivan, it’s predicted that value-added services could become a contributor to sector revenues, helping to drive the 5G market in APAC region to reach more than 100 billion USD in 2025.
