An #EmbraceEquity Month: Commemorating International Women’s Day

KUALA LUMPUR: A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination is what the world aspires to have. Aiming for a more equitable and sustainable world, International Women’s Day (IWD) was first celebrated back in 1911 to raise awareness for gender disparity, gender discrimination, and women’s achievement worldwide.  

The theme for IWD 2023, #EmbraceEquity, urges everyone to recognize and highlight the differences between equality and equity, advocating for a world where difference is valued and celebrated.

Forest Interactive is recognized by UN Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei (UNGCMYB) for its efforts in achieving gender balance across all levels of management. More than 60% of senior management at Forest Interactive comprises of women, echoing the equal opportunities in career advancement of all talents. 

To celebrate IWD 2023, Forest Interactive committed to celebrate by launching #EmbraceEquity campaign, affirming women’s achievement in the workplace by using IWD themed background, calling male allies to support equity, and hosting a virtual panel session organized to tackle questions on gender equity, biases, discrimination, and harassment in the workplace. 

Reaffirming Equity in the Workplace

Celebrating the importance of women in the workplace, Forest Interactive talents played their part by using IWD themed background in online meetings. This initiative lasted a month long and helped in raising awareness about the theme of IWD 2023. 

#EmbraceEquity Campaign

Internally, talents also submitted photos of themselves practicing the #EmbraceEquity pose, showing solidarity in gender equity and inclusion in the workplace. The #EmbraceEquity campaign also called for collective activism across the company to drive change and challenge all kinds of gender stereotypes. 

#RiseUp: The Power of Equity

The commemoration culminated with a panel session featuring prominent speaker Dr. Choy Tsee Leng from LeadWomen and Dhivyasri from All Women’s Action Society (AWAM). Both speakers are active participant in amplifying the voices of women and girls for a more equitable future here in Malaysia. 

The panel session tackles questions that involved gender discrimination and bias at the workplace, including a better understanding in fostering a culture that ensures safety for women.Forest Interactive hopes to continue inspire other partners within the tech industry to champion gender equity at the workplace. IWD is not just a celebration, it also signals Forest Interactive’s commitment to bridge the gender gap and empower women in social, economic, and political aspects. By fostering a culture that supports the #EmbraceEquity movement, the company is ensuring it has the necessary foundation for a more inclusive and equitable future.
