MANILA: A strong delegation of Malaysian representatives of Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) including Forest Interactive, is taking a proactive stance in advancing the cause of gender equality by participating in the first-ever Asia-Pacific 2023 WEPs Forum.

Launched in 2010 by UN Women and the UN Global Compact, the WEPs are a set of 7 principles that provide companies a roadmap to become more gender-responsive throughout their value chain. The dynamic two-day WEPs Forum held in Manila, Philippines, on November 7 and 8, 2023 serves as a reaffirmation for Forest Interactive and Malaysian companies in their unwavering commitment to fostering gender equality and women’s empowerment in the country’s private sector.

This significant event is a gathering of 150 change-makers, influencers, and visionaries, with Asia-Pacific WEPs signatories and a diverse array of stakeholders across 12 countries, including regional governmental bodies, country governments, policymakers, Securities and Exchange Commissions, Stock Exchanges, and business organizations.

The recognition of Forest Interactive’s Founder & CEO, Johary Mustapha, as a UN Women 2022 Malaysia WEPs Awardee in the Leadership Commitment category, is a testament to our dedication to creating an equitable work environment. The Asia-Pacific 2023 WEPs Forum was organized with the backing of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia.

According to the Global Gender Gap Index 2022, Malaysia is positioned at 103 out of 146 nations. In the Political Empowerment sub-index, the report showed that the country registered a score of 0.102, underscoring a continued disparity and indicating that Malaysian women face challenges in catching up with men in the realm of politics. The participation of the Malaysian delegation in the 2023 Asia-Pacific WEPs Forum signifies the country’s openness and bold strides toward fostering a more inclusive and empowered business and corporate sector.

“As we take important steps as a company to advance gender equality in the workplace, our industry, and surrounding communities, we are eager to continue our work in identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement, in alignment with the 7 Principles. Our company strives to contribute to a future where every voice is heard, policies drive change, and initiatives empower progress,” shared Nen Lin Soo, Head of Corporate PR.

“Attending the forum is an incredible opportunity to connect with fellow like-minded people who share our unwavering commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI),” shared Johary Mustapha. “Together, we are catalysts for change, and by collaborating with experts within the network of UN Women Asia and the Pacific, we amplify our meaningful and collective impact. This experience has been nothing short of empowering and enlightening. Let’s continue to drive progress and create a more inclusive world for all.”
