TAIPEI, Taiwan – Following the conclusion of the FIGHT x AOV online tournament organized by Forest Interactive Gaming Habitat Team (FIGHT), Wallet Codes Taiwan sponsors the winner of the tournament to compete as an amateur esports team in S8 Garena AOV Legend of City, with the team name WLC.

The winning team, which swept other 15 teams across cities in Taiwan and brought home USD550, viewed the sponsorship opportunity as a stepping stone to upskill in a bigger esports arena and attract more investment and sponsorships in the future.

“To become a good esports player, most people, especially the youth, are looking for opportunities to participate in esports tournament,” said MG Lin, WLC team leader. “However, most of them are students without independent and stable financial income. If they want to compete outside of their hometowns, the cost of traveling and lodging can be an obstacle to deter them from chasing their dreams. To be sponsored by Wallet Codes, we can compete without that much of financial pressure, and with the team name and uniforms, the overall sense of pride and attention is increased.”

“Although many tournaments have been held recently in Taiwan, most companies are still uncertain about the profitability of investing in the esports industry. Besides Garena and some other sponsors, I hope to attract more sponsors from more peripheral events, such as live streaming, qualification matches, or even esports betting, so that our young players can gain more experience and exposure to help them participate and excel at the international stage,” he added.

Meanwhile, Jocelyn Chang, Regional Head of Marketing & Business Development at Forest Interactive, said: “Having been in the esports industry for a while, we understand that exposure and experience are essential factors in developing esports talents, be it seasoned or professional players. In that sense, Wallet Codes Taiwan is not only about selling products but, more importantly, about building a strong esports community in the country.”

“The recent AOV online tournament organized by our esports development team, FIGHT, was a stepping stone for the teams to groom and grit for bigger tournaments. To show our commitment, we took the opportunity to fully sponsor the champion team to compete in S8 Garena AOV Legend of City this year. We believe that this will give the necessary exposure to Taiwan’s esports talents,” concurred Jocelyn.

S8 Garena AOV Legend of City is a large-scale championship tour hosted by Garena Legend Showdown. The tournament is divided into two major divisions, the City Tour and the City Championship. The winning teams from the City Tour (Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau) will come together to compete in the City Championship for a grand prize of NTD30,000.

The first City Tour tournament held in Tarako Park, Kaohsiung, on October 24 saw WLC finishing as runner-up, advancing to the second tournament on November 7 at Taipei Tennis Center. The team finished as semi-finalists in the second tournament, and later, the third tournament held at Tarako Mall, Taichung, on November 14.
