China: mobile economy forecast 2025

As the leading market in Asia, China is one of the most developed mobile markets in the world. The market has 83% of the population subscribed to mobile services by the end of 2020 whereas the global penetration average is at 66%. In 2025, the mobile subscriber base is predicted to grow up to 1.26 billion unique users, a huge number yet when broken down, the growth will be seen to accelerate in a slower, steadier pace.

When it comes to 5G, China is one of the fastest developing and adapting market to the new network. It’s predicted that in five years’ time the market will have 822 million 5G connections, which amounts to 47% of the total connection in the market. In 2020, China sees swift transition to 5G and achieving milestones as it took its share of global 5G connections to 87%, and in Hong Kong and Taiwan, 5G penetration is as high as 90%. This smooth adoption means that the 4G network has peaked and will see a decline this year onwards.
